Historical Signifigance

Early 19th century Martin Luther ring is a reproduction of Katharina von Bora’s wedding ring. Katharina and Martin Luther were married in 1525. In Sterling Silver with a natural Ruby. The imagery on the ring represents The Passion of Christ; the crucifixion and the instruments of torture.The original Martin Luther ring was part of a large German collection exhibited at the Deutsches Goldschmiedehaus Hanau Museum in 2011. The inner band has an inscription: “Catharina u. Boren D. Martin Luther”. The relic became private property when sold by Luther’s heirs and was missing for centuries. At the beginning of the 19th century first inquiries were made concerning its whereabouts. Shortly thereafter one Madame Devrient gave the wedding ring to the Town Library in Leipzig. Numerous copies of this ring had been made for Luther anniversaries since the early 19th century. This is an early example of such.
